There is no such thing as being able to learn a language easy or fast (and in many cases for free). There are a variety of ways to learn to speak a language. I'm a linguistics graduate student at a California university and I've used my fair share of resources. Classes, tutors, books, mp3, dvd, computer software programs. The best way I've found is to get a basic understanding of the language, maybe being able to hold a simple conversation. Then just immerse yourself by always communicating with people who speak that language. For a vast majority of people though, this isn't an option. What I would personally suggest for you, is to invest in a language learning software program for your computer. Some are affordable, some are expensive - but they go leaps and bounds beyond anything else. My personal recommendation is anything from Rocket Languages, Rosetta Stone, and Fluenz. After that he went back to the US, but came back here after two years and in one year he achieved amazingly good results. I think now most people don't even notice that he's not a native unless they talk to him for a long time (because every now and then he says something vaguely awkward).. right now he's in the living room discussing politics in Italian with my mom :D. So here is my suggestion, come to Italy and speak!
